Criminal Offences: Accepting Secret Commissions/Bribes

Bribes, secret commissions can take many different forms and come in different sizes. The Canadian Criminal Code prescribes criminal liability to prevent these arrangements. An example of such an illegal arrangement might be an instructor running his own driving school offering a secret commission or bribe to a driving examiner so that his or her students get passed regardless of their driving abilities.

Where the impact of the bribe/commission scheme potentially impacts or impacts the health and safety of the community, the court will be more inclined to grant a stiffer sentence in the case of a finding of guilt.

People have been found guilty in this area , with backgrounds that do not include any prior criminal records and who are otherwise working people with no substance abuse. They may have just fallen on tough financial times and that has led them to invoke desperate measures.
